Job Purpose

Assistant Engineer, Track Infrastructure Maintenance & Operational Engineering, is responsible to lead a team of Technical Officers to perform Preventive and Corrective Maintenance of the railway infrastructure system. Subject to deployment, the scope can include the track, third rail, point, viaduct, tunnel, station and/or depot infrastructure assets. To operate equipment, locomotives and/or specialized track maintenance vehicles to perform the inspection and maintenance works, to lead the team in performing fault attendance, fault diagnosis tests, troubleshooting, repairs and modifications to the railway infrastructure assets.  Also to contribute on workflow improvements and manages the team’s performance in achieving established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Involved in the management of contractors and stakeholders and ensuring the achievement of operating standards and quality standards and conduct training and assessment in his area of expertise as required. 

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities are as listed below. Note that the list is not comprehensive and related duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.

  • Work in any of SMRT depots, tracks or facilities.
  • Plan team duty rosters in consultation with the EMM. 
  • Disseminate any instructions and procedures issued by supervisors to the team members.     
  • Perform all necessary maintenance administration and documentation. 
  • Plan, supervise and lead a team of TOs to perform Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on railway infrastructure assets.
  • Operate equipment, locomotives and/or specialized track maintenance vehicles within depot and mainline tracks. 
  • Lead the team to ensure the railway infrastructure system defects are identified, classified, and mitigated/rectified promptly. 
  • Lead the team to ensure that the railway infrastructure system defects are recorded and reported accurately in accordance to the maintenance procedures or OEM technical manual. 
  • Supervise the team to ensure all works are done in a safe manner in accordance to the organizational procedures or OEM technical manual. 
  • Ensure that the railway infrastructure system defects and maintenance records are properly documented and updated in the Maintenance Tracking System. 
  • Conduct training and assessment as required. 
  • Perform Possession Master (PM) / Person-In-Charge (PIC) / ground shunter duty. 
  • Operate company forklift and/or aerial work platform.
  • Drive company vehicle for the purpose of work. 
  • Observe and report any safety concerns at the workplace. 
  • Any other ah-hoc duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering/Civil & Structural Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Able to perform rotating or fixed shifts work.

Skills

  • Strong leadership abilities.  
  • Able to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment.
  • Able to read and write in English proficiently.  
  • Possess basic MS Office skills.
