Assistant Engineer, Renewal Projects (R176)
Responsibilities
Reporting to Renewal Projects’ Senior/Engineer, the AE shall carry out duties and assignments delegated to him/her, ensuring that work is well executed in terms of safety and quality.
The responsibilities of a Renewal Projects AE shall include but not limited to the following:
- Require to work day or night shift including weekends as assigned in advance, subjected to last minute changes.
- Perform duties of a loco shunter and ground shunter for any site work testings.
- Perform duties of a Person-In-Charge (PIC) and Possession Master (PM). This shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Apply Application to Gain Access to Tracks (AGAT) where applicable.
- Book in at the respective depot or station for access to tracks.
- Make sure that track safety protection (arrangement of possession limit, implementation of traction power arrangements, testing of traction power, installation of SCDs/SCCs/RRBCs and securing of points) are in place before commencing work.
- Know the scope of work to be performed.
- Be clear about traction power arrangements and limits so as to ensure that all staff/contractor are protected from trains and traction power.
- Conduct mandatory Tool-box Brief to all members of the working party.
- Conduct radio check and maintain communications with all relevant parties.
- Ensure that all members in the working party put on company approved high-visibility vests and have other correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Be responsible for the safety and behaviour of the working party within the possession.
- Ensure that working party does not stray to another track outside the approved work site.
- Conduct line clear and ensure no oil spillage onto rail from machines and no tools or equipment are left on track.
- Conduct pre-checks on Contractor’s equipment and tools to ensure that they are calibrated and in good working condition prior to work commencement.
- Review Contractor’s Method Statement and Risk Assessment.
- Witness and ensure that installations/ reinstatements carried out by Contractors are in accordance to Method Statement/Procedure and Specifications.
- Assist Senior/Engineer to conduct incident investigation, gathering of evidence and compilation of incident report.
- Prepare and submit daily work report.

• Diploma in any engineering studies.
• May be required to undergo training at SMRT Institute.
• Able to lead, manage and guide work groups or contractors.
• Able to work independently, communicate effectively and be a good team player.
