Technical Officer, Permanent Way Condition Monitoring


Job Purpose

The CdM Technical Officer is responsible for operating and maintaining Permanent Way condition monitoring systems so as to support SMRT in providing safe and reliable train service to our commuters.


The duties and responsibilities of a CdM Technical Officer are as listed below.  Note that the list is not comprehensive and related duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.


  • Ensure a safe, reliable and efficient operation of the assigned PWY CdM system in accordance to the respective system’s concept of operations and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • To assist Assistant Engineer (AE) in preparing assigned PWY CdM systems for deployment.
  • To assist AE in preparing accurately and timely defect reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • To assist AE to provide requested CdM data accurately and timely to PWY maintenance and engineering for track related investigation and emergency response.
  • To execute regular inspection, monitoring and maintenance of assigned PWY CdM systems to ensure system meets operational KPI according to system manuals & WIs.
  • To assist and support CdM team in the maintenance of all PWY CdM systems.
  • To report shortfall in spares and tools availability for assigned PWY CdM systems to EMM.
  • To maintain personal knowledge of System manuals, WIs and work processes
  • Ensure own discipline and attendance .
  • Other duties arising from business needs or as assigned.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Nitec/Higher NITEC in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical.
  • Preferably with at least 1-2 years of relevant working experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance and operation works in the transport industry.
  • Must be prepared to perform rotating shifts and if required, permanent night shift.


  • Basic proficiency in MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint.
  • (Optional) Basic understanding of Maintenance Management Systems (MMS).
  • A good team player.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Positive attitude and open to learning on-the-job with problem solving skills.
