Assistant Engineer, Communications - Thomson-East Coast Line

Job Purpose

As part of the Systems department, you will be required to carry out both corrective and preventive maintenance on the latest Communication systems procured for Thomson East Coast Line project. The Communications System for Thomson East-Coast Line project comprises of the Communications Backbone Network (CBN), Radio (TETRA) system, Video Surveillance (VSS) (Including Train-borne VSS), Public Address (PA) system, Telephone and Ancillary Communication System (PABX), Station Intercom system, Two-way Emergency Voice Communications system & Fireman Intercom system), Multi-Channel Voice Recorder (McVoR), Clock system, Station Travel Information system, Civil Defence (CD) Shelter Communication system and Communications Power Supply Distribution system.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to faults and diagnose faults.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulation.

  • To plan and undertake scheduled maintenance, carry out the day to day maintenance tasks and site repairs.

  • To assist operations in achieving maximum productivity.

  • To carry out basic fault finding and planned preventative maintenance on the production line equipment to rectify any minor faults.

  • Adhere to maintenance machinery schedule to ensure all issues and resolutions are fully documented at all times. 

  • Consult with the operations team to confirm they are fully aware of engineering activities and schedules.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with at least 3 years relevant working experience is preferred.

  • Previous Railway System or related qualifications and/ or working experience would be advantageous.

Skills

  • Experience of organizing and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions
  • Ability to work under pressure
