Assistant Engineer, Trainborne


Job Purpose

The Assistant Engineer supervises his team in performing preventive and corrective maintenance work on trainborne signalling and communications systems. He also contributes to workflow improvements to enhance the reliability of the system system, as well as supervising and ensuring the work quality and safety of external contractors and stakeholders

He must demonstrate team leadership skills in ensuring the team carries out the maintenance work in a safe and orderly manner, as well as manages the team’s performance in achieving established Key Performance Indicators.


Duties & Responsibilities

1. To lead team of Technical Officers in performing tasks in compliance with relevant procedures and instructions contained in Quality Procedures, Work Specifications, Work Instructions, and Signal Standing Instructions
2. To arrange the train availability and perform the preventive maintenance (PM) as per maintenance schedule
3. To coordinate with MOC, arrange the train availability for corrective maintenance (CM), timely perform corrective maintenance on train including troubleshooting and fault rectification and submit clearance form to release the train
4. To arrange and prepare the train for mainline/test track testing whenever required
5. To assist Rolling stock department to normalized system after PM and CM
6. To assist Rolling stock department to remove and reinstall equipment during overhaul works
7. To coordinate with Engineering Train Department (ETB) for loco PM, CM and test track testing
8. To carry out day-to-day fault analysis and follow up for Not Down Train (NDT)
9. The review and verify the PM and CM checklist in the MOM
10. To monitor and timely close the notification and work order
11. To carry out day-to-day spare monitoring including sending to IEW for repair and withdrawing from warehouse
12. To assist in supervising and coaching of new staff and conducting on the job training
13. To perform tasks in compliance with relevant procedures and instructions contained in Quality Procedures, Work Specifications, Work Instructions, Signal Standing Instructions and any relevant change instructions disseminated
14. To operate safely and efficiently all Signal Measuring, Test Equipment, Instruments and Tools
15. To comply with and exercise safety at all times in accordance with all Safety Procedures.
16. To be responsible for the safety of self, peers at workplace
17. To carry-out the role of PIC and PM duties and responsibilities
18. To complete the necessary reports for the task at hand
19. To ensure good housekeeping at the workplace

Qualifications & Work Experience

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent
• Preferably 3 years’ experience as team leader in a maintenance environment
