Manager, Ab-Initio Training


Job Purpose

The Ab-Initio Training team is responsible for the learning facilitation for new hires corp-wide as part of their onboarding, as well as designing and developing relevant professional programmes aligned to our Core Values in support of SMRT's strategic goals and culture building. 

The Manager, Ab-Initio Training delivers learning products and services in a variety of environments including different learning venues, and regularly interacts with digital systems, using multiple learning delivery modes and methods. S/he will:

  • Assess learning needs and adapts the facilitation approach to reflect desired learning outcomes and learner needs.
  • Be responsible for knowledge and skills transfer by delivering learning content, facilitating group discussions and responsing to queries.
  • Be responsible for conducting assessments which measure learner competence and development and establish overall trends and performance gaps.
  • Drive learner development and commitmment to continuous learning by actively providing feedback and learner support.
  • Evaluates curriculum effectiveness and recommends improvement areas by collecting learner feedback as well as analysing learning delivery approaches and materials.
  • Be a strong communicator who builds trusted relationships and creates a cooperative and engaging learning environment.
  • Be adaptable and adept at managing multiple stakeholders.


Core Functions

  • Conduct & deliver learning solutions including classroom-based and synchronous learning programmes
  • Recommend and implement innovative learning solutions to engage learners
  • Manage the planning & delivery of service-related and leadership-related programmes for SMRT staff, in-house and external, and ensure learning effectiveness of programmes
  • Management of Associate Trainers (ATs) and training providers in ensuring the learning effectiveness of programmes.

Support Functions

  • Design, develop and implement organisation-wide learning and development programmes that are targeted to reinforce or influence the development of the SMRT Vision, Mission and Core Values. 
  • Design and organise a series of training programmes to support service excellence, leadership and people management development and strengthen capabilities in key strategic areas such as service and safety, as well as support Workplace Safety & Health (WSH), Security and Cybersecurity efforts, and strengthen capabilities in key strategic areas such as safety culture.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify learning needs analysis and support the development of training programmes required to achieve key outcomes.
  • Support and participate in Corp-wide Kaizen initiatives
  • Other assigned roles in support of SMRT's strategic goals and operations

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree, in any discipline from a recognized University
  • Possess the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Learning & Performance (ACLP), or equivalent
  • Be a subject matter expert on training, learning & development (L&D) with strong understanding of adult learning principles
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in service-related roles, with at least 2 years proven success in a team leadership position. 
  • Excellence communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, ability to adapt style of communication based on audience through all levels of leadership within the organisation
  • Proactive and possesses good self-management, naturally inquisitive with the desire to continuously improve current business practices.
