Manager, Digital Projects (System Management)


Job Purpose

Be part of the Team that Spearheads and drives the SMRT Trains’ business transformation strategic initiative embarking into a journey towards Operational Excellence and becoming an operational data driven enterprise, supported by data, technology and the right organizational design in the efforts of rebuilding the organization into a more effective, efficient organisation while enabling business opportunity improvements to build a foundation for sustainable growth.

Performing a challenging and diverse role, an Engagement Manager is required to engage with the business and operations in understanding the capabilities required to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency through business process reengineering and data-integration enabled by technology and innovation.

The primary role and responsibility is to manage SMRT POLARIS (CMMS and Data Integration) enterprise project, working with cross-functional teams to develop, deliver and roll-out solutions within SAP/MAXIMO an Data Technology solutions that enables asset management capabilities and supports business re-engineering efforts. This is a highly-niched role with a strong business, maintenance and operations focus. Supporting the efforts of business process reengineering to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.

This role is only for individuals who are driven and aspire to be a catalyst to Innovation and Transformation, implementing solutions, operational changes and delivering measurable improvements


  • Project Managing all assigned Business Transformation Projects (including CMMS and Data Integration Projects)
  • Engaging with the operations and maintenance departments in the efforts to identify improvement opportunities mainly but not limited to simplifying and streamlining processes and work flows with the desire to improve quality of work products.
  • Identify and communicate improvement opportunities and serve as our Data Integration and CMMS Subject Matter Expert
  • Responsible as the point person for several Transformation projects from inception till rollout of system changes
  • Executing sound project management principles and financial acumen when managing projects or initiatives
  • Working closely with the assigned SMRT stakeholders as well as with relevant external stakeholders such as vendors and consultants, facilitating scope meetings to construct needs analysis, requirements definition and project definitions and in delivering the scope of the CMMS and Data Integration improvements.
  • Support technical experts by facilitating workshops focused on the subject matter
  • Engaging Business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Centres of Excellence (COEs) and Operational Divisions to provide proper and accurate business and data requirements definition for the improvements required to the CMMS and Data Integration systems.
  • Direct and collaborate with cross-functional teams across all project phases from conceptual/preliminary design, detailed design, and construction
  • Ensure deliverables and quality standards are met in accordance with the agreed scope, schedule and budget
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans when deviations from budgets and/or schedules are evident
  • Collaborate with senior management to resolve schedule and budget problems as they arise
  • Facilitate change management and execute sound communication plan throughout the project
  • Manage, monitor, and forecast project management metrics; and to be reported as part of project status reporting
  • Coordinates the implementation of a defined project scope within set organizational procedures and standards. Responsible for meeting objectives within quality, time, and budget targets, and for managing associated risks.
  • Work within a governance structure that ensures accountability and enables the predictability of the outcomes of each project initiative
  • Driving efforts to obtain buy in from relevant stakeholders and drive employee ownership
  • Ensures that projects or sub-projects are undertaken and prioritised in alignment with organizational objectives
  • Accountable for the successful delivery of assigned projects
  • Act as point of contact between different departments within the company and relevant third parties
  • Communicate strategies and objectives with relevant departments and colleagues
  • Identify any risks regarding changes and develop a strategy to overcome or address these
  • Create processes and systems to evaluate the success of any adjustments made within the organization and present any findings
  • Analyse complex issues and conduct quantitative analyses to determine the feasibility of operational and investment decisions. Presenting justification papers to Top Management.
  • Supports process improvements programmes (such as KAIZEN)
  • Involved in ad hoc projects as assigned by the Head of Business Transformation

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Graduate Degree and above.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Project Management preferably ERP CMMS (SAP/MAXIMO), Data Integration and Analytics systems implementation projects. Asset management System Implementations would be an advantage.
  • A portfolio of complete cycles of successful and failed projects.
  • Involved in Business Transformation or Digital Transformation Projects is an advantage.
  • Project Experiences on – Data Visualisation Technologies (such as PowerBI, QlikView), CMMS Systems (such as MAXIMO, SAP), Cloud Technologies (such as Azure), AI and Machine Learning, Enterprise Databases, ETLs, Data Governance, Masterdata Management, Enterprise Data Modelling and Change Management


  • Experience in project management disciplines with the ability to provide the processes, structures and work with tools for managing individual project management or future programs (PMP is an advantage).
  • User experience in MAXIMO, SAP MM and SAP PM (literate in the use, functionalities and modules) is an advantage.
  • LSS or KAIZEN certification is an advantage
  • Good track record in writing project justification papers to C levels.
  • Detailed background knowledge or hands-on experience relevant to Rail/Transportation Industry is an advantage.
  • Requires knowledge and experience within engineering technical areas and possess awareness of its business and operational issues.
  • Post Graduate Degree and above. Academic or professional qualifications in management and/or leadership are highly advantageous for fast career advancements. Individuals without a relevant degree will need to demonstrate previous experience.
  • Self-driven, managed and motivated with the ability to independently handle multiple complex issues concurrently. Good time management skills and ability to multitask. Requires no micro management with the ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision and manage projects from pre-initiation to post completion.
  • Flexible but objective based approach to work and with the ability to set and meet targets.
  • Sound knowledge and awareness of general business processes and organisational framework, such as goals, strategy, culture and structure within an Engineering domain.
  • Proficient at producing and presenting reports and proposals.
  • Ability to demonstrate innovation and creativity.
  • Good leadership qualities, ability to work well within a team and influence key decision makers.
  • Good negotiation skills and strong problem-solving driven attitude and able to adapt to changing environments and produce results.
