Senior/Manager, Rolling Stock Engineering
Job Purpose
The Manager / Senior Manager, Rolling Stock Engineering, is to provide leadership and management to his team. The team is expected to provide engineering solutions to reliability problems affecting SMRT Trains, Engineering Trains and Plant Equipment. He will be required to coach and guide the team in defect troubleshooting, failure analysis, reliability trending, and develop engineering solutions to the problems identified; ensuring that each system and sub-system is performing within the defined reliability targets. He will also have to collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders on engineering and maintenance efforts and ensure high system reliability and availability.
Responsibilities
- Work in any SMRT Maintenance Depots or facilities.
- Work in rotating or fixed shifts (in accordance with MOM guidelines).
- Work at heights to perform engineering activities. (Training and qualifications will be provided by company.)
- Effectively lead his team and work with Ops and Maintenance staff from the Lines as well as other engineering departments to investigate defects. They are to develop methods, propose modifications and improve maintenance strategies to rectify them.
- Lead his team in analyzing and trending condition monitoring and defect data to identify reliability concerns. They are to develop methods, propose modifications and improve maintenance strategies to overcome them.
- Vet and review technical work instructions for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Review and update System Hazard log and Risk register.
- Identify and implement cost effective technologies to enhance SMRT Trains, Plant Equipment as well as Engineering Trains and its associated equipment performance.
- Support LTA and SMRT projects in reviewing project design specifications and ensure their adequacy for the safety, reliability, maintainability and operability. To provide other engineering support to the projects, as required.
- Responsible for his team’s technical competency, safety, welfare, learning and development. He is to coach, nurture and develop his team in engineering and management skills.
- Prioritize and de-conflict manpower requirements and resource allocation to optimize maintenance efficiency.
- Responsible to Head of Department to ensure that internal processes are in place and enforced in accordance with policies, procedures, circulars and manuals stipulated in SMRT Trains.
- Responsible for the effective knowledge management of the systems under his charge.
- Identify and report any safety concerns at the workplace.
- Undertake any other tasks or functions that are incidental or ancillary to the performance of the works, as assigned by supervisor. (Training and qualifications will be provided by company, as required.) Examples include
- Perform admin functions
- Respond to operations emergencies
- Support the execution of projects; including verifying contractor’s work completion, providing manpower to support project testing & commissioning, attendance to contractors, etc
- Preparation of reports
Qualifications & Work Experience
Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution, with at least 5 years’ working experience in managerial positions in a maintenance organisation.
Previous Railway System experience would be advantageous.
Skills
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Comfortable to work hands-on in a maintenance workshops environment alongside other Engineers, Assistant Engineers and Technical Officers. Must also be able to work in different shift timings, when required.
Adept with diagnostics and reliability engineering methods such as FMECA, Fault Tree analysis, Weibull analysis and Damage Tolerance Analysis, etc.
Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
Able to work independently and as a team effectively adjusting oneself flexibly to different work situations.
Effective organizational and planning skills.
Fluent in written and oral communication skills in English.
